The Best & The Worst of Europe 2011

In honor of my final week in Germany, I’ve decided to make a list of everything from my 5 month adventure here (the good, bad, & the ugly). Here it goessss….

Best Hostel: The Old Square Hostel that Lauren & I stayed at in Prague. The location could not have been more perfect…right in the middle on the Old Town with its’ own Bar Crawl.

Best Waiter: The ice cream shop right next to the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy had the best waiter ever, Angelo (he only brought us ice cream, but the fact that he asked if I would like a boyfriend with my ice cream puts him at the top of my list).

Worst Waiter: In Innsbruck, Austria at the restaurant Piano. When I asked the difference in size between their large and small salad he replied “Idunno..big is big and small is small!” Wow…Really?! Insightful, thanks for that! haha.

Best Wine: The Shiraz wine we had in the Restaurant with glass walls in Rome, Italy

Best Breakfast: At the Ambassadori Hotel in Rome, Italy. Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Salami, Croissants, Fruit…need I go on?

Best Hotel: The Bed & Breakfast in Lucerne, Switzerland. Couldn’t have been more picturesque.

Worst Hostel: Didn’t really stay at any bad hostels…but location wise—the one in Paris was not the best. Magda and I had to put our tough faces on so nobody would mess with us! haha

Best Running Trail: On the Bodensee, so picturesque.

Best Clubs: Prague, Czech Republic

Most Attractive Men: Hmmm this is such a tough call…ITALY!! That accent, the dark hair & skin…you can tell flirting originated there & i loved every second of it.

Best Shopping (if only I could afford any of it): Champs Elysees in Paris. Ahhh it’s heaven just thinking about it :)

Best Shopping (affordable): Konstanz, Germany. Zara & my favorite Vintage store I have EVER been to.

Worst Train Ride: Hmmm easily staying overnight with the crazies in the Stuttgart train station & then the trip from Stuttgart to Friedrichshafen with the man dressed as a giant pink bunny that should have been arrested for harassment…one of the scariest nights of my life. no joke.

Best Train Ride: The trip from Innsbruck, Austria to Lucerne, Switzerland…The mountains, small villages, and having my family with me made it a memorable time :)

Best Natural Sight: The Alps. Hands down.

Best Tourist Sight: Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany..truly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Or the Arc De Triumph in Paris…It’s not all that amazing in pictures, but in person it’s SO beautiful and impressive.

Place That Took My Breath Away: The Vatican & the Sistine Chapel. Words & pictures cannot even begin to describe it…

Biggest Bargain: Not only the biggest bargain but the day I realized I was born to haggle people down on prices…my Louis Vuitton purse in Rome. Don’t even ask me how much I paid for it. haha

Best Beer: ANY beer that I had in Germany…they are soo delicious!

Best Main course: Any of the pasta we had in Italy…all of the ingredients were so fresh! You will never find pasta like that anywhere else in the world.

Best Dessert: The Tiramisu we had in Italy. Pure heaven.

Best Cafe: Any of the cafes we went to in Paris…They were so completely picturesque, I couldn’t believe it. We saw a woman that had a white French poodle laying next to her while she smoked and read her newspaper…Oh la la!

Best Coffee: I went through an ENTIRE pot of coffee every morning at breakfast in Italy…If I could have a permanent Italian coffee drip into my system I would die a happy girl.

Most Missed Things: My dog, Mexican Food (I will never take Qdoba for granted ever, ever again), Starbucks (I embarrassed everyone around me when I spotted one..running & screams ensued), and my car.

Funniest/Best Conversation: Basically any of the conversations we had in Italy…but probably with Steffano (the street artist that told us his life story and every possible fact about Rome that we could ever hope to know). He was hysterical and SO kind-hearted.

Worst Conversation: Any conversation I have had with an elderly person in Germany…Basically they either yell, frown, scowl, or any other expression that makes you feel like the scum of the earth. Truth.

Closest Call: Walking up to the ticket lady at the Frankfurt Airport 15 minutes before our flight to Italy…haha Whoops. Travel foul.

Biggest Challenge: Figuring out what to do with your trash in a country that believes in sorting every little piece of it. Still to this day don’t quite understand it…haha! Paper goes here, Plastic goes there…BLAAHHH

Best Airport: Zurich…Really modern & a short trip from Friedrichshafen

Worst Airport: Frankfurt…Do they have any food in the WHOLE airport?? If so, I wasn’t able to find it…

Worst Weather: Probably on the trip to Neuschwanstein Castle, it wasn’t really bad but since we went in January & the entire trip was outside, I couldn’t really feel my toes the whole time…

Best Airplane Movie: The Dilemma, I was dying laughing during the entire thing.

Best Airplane Seat Buddies: This is SUCH a tough call…I met so many interesting people! Probably the guy from Chicago I met on the flight from Indy to Chicago that helped me get to my next flight, he was seriously my angel. Or the 2 Greek ladies that basically adopted me during the 9 hours flight. They gave me a million snacks and covered me with a blanket during my nap…haha they were so adorable!

Most Pigeons: PARIS…I always felt like I was one step away from being pooped on, ESPECIALLY on top of the Notre Dame. They were everywhere.

Most Money Spent: Switzerland…a plain black coffee was LITERALLY 5 franks (which is about 8 US dollars)

Least Money Spent: Paris…Got a nearly free dinner (from a really nice waiter) and only bought a few post cards!

Overall Favorite City: Tough call…I really liked Prague…But my favorite city has always been and will always be…PARIS! It was my second time there and can’t wait to go back!

Next Travel Destinations: The next adventures I really want to take are to: Ireland, Croatia, and South Africa!! These past 5 months have made me SUPER travel savvy and can’t wait to see where life takes me next!!
